Thinking of painting black hardtop on silver JKU...thoughts?
I've only had my '12 silver JKU for a few weeks, but I have already noticed how hot things can get under that black hardtop. I was thinking of having it painted to match in silver, but I have always liked a contrasting top. What do you think about going with a matte tan, similar to the color that was available on the TJs (my '03 had this)?
The only picture I could find is a photoshop of a TJ found on another forum. Gives a general idea of what I was thinking.

Well, it's whatever you like. My silver '08 has a black top and love it, but gets hot. I've thought about getting it painted silver but that is the only color I personally would like, the tan would be cool if you had a tan interior! Just my .02

If you wheel a lot and you care about scratches, then you will hate having a painted top. my hard top had tons of scratches from just one season of wheeling. As far as painting the top tan with a silver body..... Silver and tan don't exactly match.
The other alternative is to get a soft top or remove the hard top for the summer and roll with a spidershade or bikini top.

You could find a Khaki hard top for trade. A lot of guys with Khaki will trade for a Black top.
I'm planning on trading my Black soft top for a Khaki soft top just because I prefer the Khaki with my Rescue Green.

I hadn't thought of trading. I may have to consider that. As for insulating, that is a great idea that I probably need to put higher on my list. Granted, as G520 says, I will probably spend a lot of time without the top as summer rolls up here in CO.
I hadn't thought much about the silver top (if it were painted to match) taking much offroad abuse, but I think that is a good point. As it stands, I am sure the matte black/khaki colors are much easier to touch up after the fact.
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate the input.
