Yes that too. Basically the bottom line is that there is really nothing you do during the install that would cause this problem.

Yup, mine also makes a crunching noise in the last little bit of opening, its
Not anything under the hinge as I wiped it clean

Default Teraflex HD tailgate hinge

The term “Break-In” period would probably not be a good term since an inanimate object would not know when to stop “Breaking-In” or “loosing up”. Next thing you know your tailgate is swinging like a storm door in a hurricane. The HD Hinge is working just like it is supposed to, I can now park up-hill and open the gate in any position and it will stay there.

I seen another thread on this subject. Teraflex said just give it some time to break in. Try some WD40 also. I have a carrier arriving tomorrow. I'm spraying mine down with some WD before I install it.

This is completely normal...i've had mine on for over 6 months now and it has loosened up somewhat. I actually prefer the feeling of it being more stiff to open and close. It actually holds in place without slamming shut on me if i am parked on a slope or grade. It is good practice to spray any moving parts with a lube/rust preventative anyways so you don't get any corrosion in the hinge pin area!
On a side note you will absolutely love this carrier! It is probably the best money i have spent on my rig yet and is durable as hell.

Mine was also stiff in the beginning. Put a 35 on there and it's perfect.

Default Teraflex Carrier

I've had mine on a little over three months. Has always been 'stiff', but I believe it's because
I have a heavy-ass 35 inch tire on it. I've also read that it takes awhile to 'loosen' up, but
I'm not a fan of 'loose' things on my jeep. Doesn't bother me and it's taken a good beating
so far. My $ .02

I'd be cautious of this. There is no real picture, just a drawing.

Not even close. You get what you pay for. Teraflex puts out top notch, quality products that are meant to be used and hold up.

I really like this tire carrier. I have it on the Gekko and it is going to go on the Dozer. Its well thought out and well built.
