I just installed mine a few weeks ago. I ran a 35" tire on the stock carrier of my old jeep for 40k miles with zero issues, but for my new jeep I thought I'd give it a try. The tailgate is definitely noticeably stiffer and stronger. I don't know and don't think it will really prevent any tailgate damage, but I like it. I installed both the hinge and carrier. It feels like what the jeep should have come with from the factory. Click image for larger version

I run the complete Teraflex setup, my dad has the smittybilt. We are both satisfied.

Since I'm coming in late and have a question about the hinge unrelated, I'll contribute.

I put a 35 on my stick hinge/Rugged Ridge tire carrier at 8,000 miles. At 65,xxx, I finally started to get some back clicking/rattling. Wheeling in Colorado, Moab, dirt roads, etc. no issues until recently.

I went to Teraflex and it did make a huge difference. Zero noise. But I was determined to use my carrier so I had to grind the lip off the hinge to make it work and it's solid.

My question:
What is the thread pitch/bolt size for the receiving holes on the carrier? I'm looking at fuel can mounts.

call your dealer or tera flex. They should be able to tell you.

I called TF. They said it was on their web site and I can't find it anywhere. I'm just going to get a close match and buy a few different thread pitches and figure it out. Just thought someone might know.
