Question before installing this; I see that the carrier covers one of the old rubber stopper holes originally for supporting the tire. Do you think this hole should be siliconed or something to prevent water from working its way between the gate and carrier into the hole?

I covered it with 3M clear mask material.

I just installed the complete setup and love it. Makes the tailgate feel much stronger now, unlike the stock jk hinges. Very easy install, and worth the $$$.

I took the rubber bump stop and cut it off until only a thin disc of rubber was left. I plugged it back into place and proceeded with the install of the hinge. I had the same concern as you seem to have. However cutting the rubber was tedious. 3M tape should be more convenient and serve the same purpose.

Did you use it only for that hole or for the entire contact surface between the tailgate and carrier?

Only to cover the hole for the right tire bumper. I can mail you a piece of the material if you're not in a hurry to install the carrier.

That would be fantastic! Otherwise the smallest I could find was a 4ft piece on amazon!
