It does, It mounts inside the tire after you put it on. Not sure of the thought process here?? Thats why I purchased and modified their third brake light bracket to fit it. Click image for larger version

I'm thinking they wanted to use is as a plate relocate also. Here's what I did.

Yeah it takes avout 30 seconds to take off if you need the flat. I just carry a 9/16ths wrench with me all of the time just incase.

Actually, my thoughts are the fact that the tire rests on the rear bumper is a good thing. It takes some of the weight off of the OEM carrier plus it does not allow any flexing of the door skin while the vehicle is in motion, which if I am correct, is the cause of the tailgate failures.

My only concern is the opening and closing of the tailgate and how that may affect the door skin in the long run.

Am I wrong?

Thanks for the advice so far.

like i said..i have ran the the dusy ershim, hammers and a crapload of other trails with a 37 and hi lift hanging off of it all in the past few months....do you plan to subject yours to that kind of abuse...also,the carrier doesn't add but relieves stress from the door skins.

I am curious, does anyone know what type of goodies are in the works for the hinged carrier? I see there are a few threaded holes on mine. Hopefully a gas can mount

I use the AEV CHMSL Rear Light and it works great with this setup and opens up the window for visibility above the tire.
