It seems the zerks are making contact with a crease in the upper section of the lower control arm axle mounts.

I think grinding a notch in the center of those creases should allow the zerks to clear them.

@TeraFlex, you know about this issue of breaking/crushing the zerk fittings on the lower control arms?

I'm also trying to locate some lower profile fittings... or just plug them until I need to service them.
