TeraFlex 9550 shocks
I have a 2010 unlimited with the TeraFlex 2.5" lift and their 9550 shocks. I have had this lift for three years. Mostly used as a DD. Off-road couple time a year. I'm on my third set of these shocks and like the previous two sets these are leaking oil. TeraFkex replaced the first two set free of charge through Quadratec. What experience have others had with these shocks. Are they just not a quality shock? Thanks in advance for any input.

I ran them as disposable shocks... The best bang for the buck I could find.
About once every 2 months I would fold up a rear shock on a rock or bend the front on the frame during other damage, brand didn't matter. I ended up changing to coilovers which is a different mount and are a bit more resilient.
I never did see how long of a life the 9550's would have had I not beat them to death.

Leaks could be caused by the shock overextending (limiting factor for suspension's droop) or it bottoming out (needing longer bump stops). You can flex it out and see if this might be the problem. However, if you're not off road a lot, it's probably not the reason.
Also, if your front shocks are the leakers make sure your track bar is adjusted properly too. An improperly adjusted track bar can allow the shocks to contact the frame at droop and damage the lower seal/shock body. Basically make sure the axle is centered under the chassis. Once again this would only be the case under extreme angles so if you're not off road between purchase and failure, not the issue.
Not saying it's not a bad shock problem, you just want to make sure the shock isn't getting asked to do more than it's designed to.

Running the lift kit that I got from TeraFlex. Installed properly with their bump stops. Front and back are leaking. Rear are the worst. Again not off road much and nothing extreme.

I've got over 100K miles on mine. My Duratracs, which are in need of replacement from normal tire wear, are showing a bit of cupping. So I will replace the shocks when swapping tires. Other than that, no other problems. And I drive a lot of hard, off-road miles (check out my videos on YouTube DigitalByDoiron).

I did the same thing as Sok. I had 9550 and they were horrible. Switched to bilstein 5100 and it got better. Switched to the regular performance 2.0 fox and that's what I stuck with. I even had king resi in front for a while and took them off cause I liked the fox better.

Right now I'm in contact with TeraFlex. Sent them an email. They got back to me right away asking for some pictures. Just sent them the pictures and will see what they say.

Ok let me know. Friend of mine has teraflex also and he has noticed some leaking. My stabilizer leaked and like I said my shocks were horrible. It was amazing how much better the jeep rode and handled just by getting rid of them.
