Default Tailgate Strap Problem

I am running 35 inch Nitto Trail Grapplers and last week while gently opening my tailgate the metal strap that connects the tailgate to the inside panel snapped like a twig. Any suggestions on where to find a replacement is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you talking about this thing? If so, did yours break, or just pull out of the fixture inside?

Ronjenx, that is exactly what I am talking about. Mine broke off and pulled out of the fixture inside. Where can I find that replacement part? Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it.

The part can be bought from the dealer. I think it's around $35.

It's possible to pull the linkage out of the fixture without having broken anything.

Are you sure yours is broken?

Yeah it definitely cracked off. I took it to the dealer (Mancari's in Chicago), but they told me it was not covered under the warranty because I installed 35 inch tires. From what I can tell this is a common problem even with a factory spare. I might just leave it off at this point.

The way the thing is designed, it doesn't serve as a travel limit, so I don't see how the heavier tire would be a factor.

When I was installing mine, it pulled out of the fixture without breaking anything. It was tricky getting it back in.

At what point on the rod did yours break? (I have assumed it was the hidden end. Maybe yours broke at the tail gate end?)

The had the same thing happen to me on my 2013 2 door Rubi with stock tires so that B.S. the dealer gave you about your 35's is lame. I couldn't have opened it any slower and it snapped out ! I haven't had time to bring it back to the dealer yet but I'll let you know what they tell me OIIIIIIIO
