Here is what I did.
Base is plastic peg board cut to size (and fitting with the *@#$(! sub...)
I use zip ties to attach stuff.
Axe is held by quick fists.
Left bag is my med bag. It comes off the velcro base for quick use.
Tan pouch opens L shaped. I will keep maps and trail related items in it.
The thing hanging off the axe is a gerber camp saw.
Still debating the other areas open on the board.

I second the VectorOffroad.com kit. I've seen them in person and it's a very simple design, yet fully functional. You can hang stuff on the table in the up position. They have more cool items for the JK too.

^^^^ that being said about the Vector stuff, I bought two peg board panels from Walmart, cut one down to clear the sub and screwed them onto the tailgate.
Used quick fists to attach a shovel, axe is pending.

You all can do what you want, I'm not trying to be a nanny here. But, it scares the crap out of me that people mount axes n whatnot to your tailgates. The last thing I ever want in the event of a collision is an axe and shovel breaking though a mount at the back of my jeep and wrecking house on its way to my head at 50 mph. I know there are a lot of people that do it.. and I envision Final Destination every time I see it.

Personally I would just do storage on the tailgate. I think you are better off with a folding aluminum table. It gives you more options on where you use it. As an example, if you have to park on uneven ground then the tailgate table becomes much less useful.
This is a great point and the reason I make these posts. Thanks for the feedback.

I got mine at REI in case I have a problem with it later, then I can return it no problem. Looks like the model I have they no longer make, but if they have a new design. mine - new design
That Rock Slide Engineering one is cool at all, but the Vector allows you to strap on stuff to it. I will eventually get a Vector Off Road one for this reason, and then have a table for those occasions where I can park relatively level.
