Tailgate Hinges
#22
Y'all tell me what you think. I had an over size wheel/tire on my stock carrier when I bought my jeep. The rivets are mostly gone on the inside of the tailgate. The tailgate was making all kinds of noise and driving me crazy. I replaced the stock carrier with an OR Fab tire carrier. The noise improved, but it still rattles too much. I tried the electrical tape, and the Striker and latch seem to be in the right position.
Here is my idea: what if I filled the inside of the tailgate with expanding foam insulation? Do you think that would quiet things down? May be a ridiculous thought but I am out of ideas to fix it!

My tail gate rattles and I've NEVER had an oversized spare on it. When I switched to 35's years ago, I took the spare and the carrier off the gate completely. The play is at the hinge pin. My guess is the holes that the pins go through have wallowed out. I'm not really sure why since there has never been excess weight on it.

[QUOTE=H00LIGAN;3255640]Careful with the expanding foam. If you use too much it will bow the sheet metal out on the gate. Problem is, since it expands you don't really know how much to put in until it's too late.
Good point on the expansion. I wasn't sure if it was coming from inside the gate. Now it sounds like shot hinges.
