Default Suspension question? bumpstops. shocks.

How important are bumpstops? I'm looking to upgrade my suspension (lift, shocks, bumpstops, steering stabilizer etc..) basically redo everything. I like the low and wide look so plan on 2.5" lift. Every thread I've read says you can run 37's with flat fenders and adjusted bumpstops. Well I found a ok deal on some Teraflex Speedbumps. First of all, are they worth it? Would I be better off spending the money else where?

More than likely I'll be buying a Rock Krawler lift. Had one on my last JK and had no complaints. The majority of my driving will be pavement but I do take frequent trips (1-2 a month) on fire roads, logging roads etc.. We drove about 30+ miles on gravel and the ride was not good with my current setup.

I ran Bilsteins 5100 with my last setup and they were suggested for this lift as well. Would the 5160 up front do much of a difference? or if I went with reservoir shocks do I need to get all 4? If Bilsteins aren't what you'd go with, what would you reccomend?

Thanks for any help, couldn't find any answers. Maybe had the wrong words or there isn't info on what I'm looking for.

Plan to use:
*2.5" RK lift
*37x13.5 Toyo MT or 37x12.5 GoodYear MTR
*17x8.5 Method Race

Ill be the first to ask for help, but as far as I know the speed bumps are great for fast/medium speed since they act as a reactive bumpstop, rather than just a piece of rubber. Also on the shocks, if the offloading you do is quick, similar to the speedbumps, reservoir shocks are the way to go. If its just crawling/mudding then there's really no need. Hope I'm some help!

Bumpstops will keep you from stuffing a tire into a fender or bending a shock. Other questions, I can't offer any advise. I'm running a RK 2.5 will Bilstein 5100's and I'm happy with the ride.

Thanks guys. The road we were on has a speed limit of 45 mph and it has whoops, dips, wash out so it was HORRIBLE. I had to slow down multiple times. We go out there quite a bit, so I'd like to have a better ride on that type of terrain. We don't have much rocks around here to crawl on and I hate cleaning mud so I try to avoid the big holes.

Is 45 considered fast enough for the speedbumps to do their job? or are we talking baja speeds?

Which Rock Krawler kit did you go with?

Bump stops are an important part of the whole suspension system, if you don't want to do lots of trimming or have your suspension banging hard when it bottoms out you will need them. As far as the teraflex speed bumps, I would not waste the money. If looking for an air bump stop I would stick with fox, bilstein, or king. They will require a custom set up as far as the mount but can be changed if needed and are much stronger then the teraflex model. Air bumps will also allow you to adjust the compression. A full set will run you more then a grand though.

Your going to need about 4" of bumpstop or 3" of bumpstop and 1" of body lift IIRC. Try a search for planmans guide on this subject.

Oh and on the shocks Ive had good luck accross the desert at the speeds your looking at with the 5100s and 3" of lift but that was with the stock tires. Havent had a chance to get out there yet with the big tires so I dont know if more dampening is going to be needed. I cant imagine it will be much different but these tires are heavy so we'll see.

If I'm not mistaken you need to run at least a 3" lift to be able to use any of the speed bumps or air bump systems. I'm running the TF speedbumps and I love them no issues what so ever and now my wife enjoys wheeling with me a lot more. No more rough bottoming out or jarring hits to the bump stops. When I was looking at this upgrade the biggest reason I went with TF was because it was a modification I could install easily in my drive way.

Air bumps can be used with any size lift, even stock.
