Superchips announces Jeep FlashPaq

This isn't true as all Superchips Products are C.A.R.B. compliant, sometimes to the dismay of their customers wanting to run beefy cams and basically pour as much raw fuel as possible through their engine.

They should be going out any day.
There was a Show & Shine not far from the Superchips HQ this past weekend. They were in attendance as a vendor and had "shipped" some to another vendor to sell at the S&S in addition to offering one as a door prize too.
This is the sad part of the story
I was going to purchase one of the new Superchips programmers (which is now not much bigger then an iPod) but had forgotten my checkbook at home. So after checking out all of the cool stuff I decided to go home and get my checkbook so I could buy one and try it out ASAP.
Anyhow, once home, of course my wife decides something needed done so I resigned myself to not going back to the S&S and therefore postponing my programmer purchase.
The next day I get an email from a Jeep acquaintance of mine saying what great show it was and, oh, btw, was I aware they pulled my raffle ticket number for the Superchips programmer door prize?!!!
No way! I tell him. He tells me I surely did win, but since I had to be present to win they called another number
I have not had good luck the past few weeks.

I hear about ECM failures somewhat regularly. Not necessarily from programmers, but it just happens. I have heard of people accidentally pulling the cord during a program and bricking an ECM, but that isn't isolated to Superchips, in fact it's more likely to happen to someone who has a programmer that takes 5x as long to do a flash update. The result is usually getting the vehicle to the dealer and saying, "Uggghhhh, I don't know how that happened" and the dealer re-flashes the computer.
The only issue I have ever had with my Superchips Flashpaq was the result of my desktop computer going to sleep midway through an update process. My truck wouldn't load the new update, I had that few moments of panic and then returned to stock. Next day I called Superchips, they looked at the log of my download and told me it wasn't complete and to make sure my computer didn't go to sleep during the update process. I did, it worked fine and I programmed my truck successfully.
I'm sure people have horror stories about Superchips just the same as they do with Hypertech, Bully Dog or Diablo. It's rare but it happens and the more important thing is how the company responds when you do have a problem. My experience in that regard with Superchips, although my vehicle was never disabled, was very positive. Never condescending nor pretentious and got my problem solved quickly. I didn't get that same ducky feeling with Hypertech, and pretty much was left on my own to fix my issues. I'm sure these guys get calls all day with someone who says they waved their programmer over the hoop of their vehicle and it doesn't go faster, but none of that bled into my call and I was dealt with in a very professional manner.

We have a great opportunity with JPop, an existing Superchips customer (on a different platform) who is also an existing HyperTech customer on his JK, who is willing to test and compare. This compare won't be a true head-to-head as he can only run one at a time and then the darn computer will need to re-learn some of the Superchips features.
I too was just about to pull the trigger on a HyperTech. I was suppressing all of the negative "vibes" I had in my mind as to their terrible pre-sales support and mixed messages I was seeing on this forum from Members who had HyperTechs installed, like mixed messages on running lean, on CAI's, and such. Then I saw this news article and I backed off of getting a HyperTech and I'm waiting for JPop's review.
Bottom line: Competition is good. Maybe this Superchips unit will only be about the same as the HyperTech unit, that is still good as it gives us a choice. That is something we really didn't have before.
Now my choice will be Superchips or nothing, as I just can't stop listening to the voices in my head that say "stay away from the HyperTech, you will be glad you did".

I think I will be able to do some pretty good testing as I have a routine that pretty much clears the head of the ECM with a couple highway on ramp blasts while I get the speedometer GPS calibrated. Although I won't be able to run the programmers at the exact same time, I'm hopeful that all the data logging features will be there out of the gate. That will enable me to do some multiple 330' uphill runs and record the times. If anything the Hypertech at it's current settings have been installed for a while, perhaps giving it an advantage.
While I'm sure my tests will be far from perfect and likely lead to some skepticism in my methods, it's no different than what information can be pulled from manufacturer sponsored dyno pulls. Hood up, hood down, operating and air temperature differences. Additionally, dyno runs aren't the same as where the rubber hits the road and if they were the NHRA would be pretty damn boring.
I have no vested interest in this although I have hedged my bets on Superchips. If I would have had a choice two years ago, I wouldn't own the Hypertech because Superchips didn't give me a reason to bolt from their product line. In the end there likely won't be all that great of a difference and the bottom line will come down to the totality of their feature sets. Clearly what's been advertised from Superchips wins that battle and the Hypertech needs to prevail in more than a squeaker.

Finally!
I couldn't be happier with this announcement as I'm incredibly happy with my Superchips Flashpaq on my Dodge Ram. I have been less than happy with the performance of the Hypertech Max Energy and needed to work around it to get any sort of performance gains, or more accurately enough fuel to run through so I wasn't leaned out. Making matters worse is someone from Hypertech accidentally forwarded me their internal discussions of my issues and that really left me feeling less than, shall we say "ducky".
With the Hypertech bolt on a CAI or exhaust and pray that the ECM can sort it out as Hypertech has no interest in doing so. Superchips on the other hand audits what people have bolted on via their site registration for Flashpaq upgrades and is responsive on their forum to customers issues.
Do an update on the Hypertech and pray that you remember to be on the outside of your vehicle while you wait forever for the tuner. Better not need to hit the head and it's a two beer wait for the update to take place. Even worse is pulling into the garage and having the timed light turn off and fumbling to find a flash light in your jeeps interior so you can navigate the Max Energy in the dark.
A Superchips update takes less minutes to accomplish than you can count on one hand. No fears of being entombed in your vehicle waiting for it to happen. NO lights and the brightly illuminated screen makes for easy navigation without scrambling for a flashlight or a book of matches. Best of all, make a change, start the engine and feel an immediate difference that gets better with a couple tanks full as opposed to thinking somethings different because your wallet is lighter.
Again, I couldn't be happier and I hope it meets my expectations. The bar right now is set pretty low not only from the perspective of how little Hypertech has to offer but how they view their customer base.

Having said all that, the features mentioned in this article sound like they're hands-down WAY better than what Hypertech offers, so if the price is reasonable, I'd definitely consider getting one of these Superchip doohickeys.

Oh, and as for the "pray you're outside your vehicle" when you install the Hypertech tuning... the easy solution is to simply roll down your driver side window, reach through to hook up the programmer, turn the key when it tells you to, and then walk away and let it do its thing.
