Default Superchips - 89 octane tune needed?

Here in NE Indiana I have been unable to find any gas stations with 91 octane fuel. 87, 89, and 93 are it. I emailed Superchips and requested this to be added to a future update, never heard a word back.

Scott, are you still hanging around?

i think the 87 tune can work with 89 also, cause there isnt any 91 around where i live either. i havent tried it yet but i dont think it would hurt anything..

If timing maps are tuned for 91 then run 91 or higher or else you risk detonation when heat soaked or if the motor gets hot. So if no 91 then run 93 for safety. If not then de tune the motor to run the octaine you are willing to pay for. Running 87 with an 89 tune risks some detonation and that will damage your motor. Just because you don't hear detonation does not mean you are not getting it. Lots of other noises drown it out.

Good luck.

YMMV

Yes, 87 tune with 89 octaine is fine. Just don't want to run any lower than your tune is designed for. Your goal with higher octaine fuel is to prevent knock or detonation. It won't gain you power by it self. It just allows you to run more advanced timing maps, higher compression or boost in a boosted car or truck. Lots of misinformation out there so be carefull of snake oil etc...

your 100% correct. You'll be fine running 89 on the 87 tune.
