But is the spiderweb shade waterproof ??? Or water resistant at least ??

Did you see the thread with the guy who converted a basketball hoop into a winch to remove and hold his JKU hard top. Now THAT is an awesome idea!

Not really. More of a really tough mesh. Although I'm sure it would provide some sort of protection in the rain (I would have loved having on on Sunday when I got caught in a rain/hail storm while wheeling with my top & doors off! )

I've wanted to make a lexan top that would replace the freedom tops. Thought it would be great in the winter to have a clear roof but still keep rain and snow out. I priced out some material at work but never did get around to ordering it.
Well...I ran across this the other day. Not the same but very close.
You could use the rear with the freedom tops.
