Default Suggestions

I just got an 07 2 door jk. I previously had a TJ that I lifted and really enjoyed. I know some of the basics but I had friends who were mechanics who helped out with everything so I still know very little. So some of these question might be dumb but I appreciate any advice.

I want to get 32-33 inch tires on my Jeep. I think that they might fit stock but it wouldn't give me much room. So I am planning on getting some sort of small lift. On the TJ the only options I remember were body or suspension but for the JK I keep seeing coil spacers. This will be my daily driver for at least a year so I am not planning on doing any serious offroading until then. Sometimes I drive long distances so I would like it to ride decent. I also wasn't a big fan from just a cosmetic standpoint of what a 3 inch body kit looked like with no suspension kit. So what lift allows for those tires to fit but still have a decent ride? The other issue is I recently moved and I know absolutely no one, so I will have to pay a shop in the Chicago area to put it on. What would labor run on some of the different lifts?

My other question is about tires. Will 32-33 inch tires be ok with my current gears? Or will it make it a tough drive. On my last Jeep for a few weeks I had 35s with factory gears and it was brutal. What is the largest size I can get on my factory rim and does it look ok or do I need aftermarket rims? Also how large can the tires be and still have the spare fit on the factory holder?

I have a picture uploaded to my album if you guys need to look at anything. Money is tight so what would you guys suggest?

I recommend you a 2.5" BB lift. It's cheap and you are able to keep your stock shocks. This is perfect for 33" tires. You can also install 35" tires, but it will rub at full flex.

You can install 33" tires on your stock wheels. At 275 it's okay, but at 285 it will rub on the brake line at full turn. You can buy off-set wheels or wheel spacers if you go wider than 285

With 33" you can keep your stock gears

By the way, welcome to the forum

The Rubicon comes stock with 32s. 33s will possibly fit stock with no rubbing at all. I second the BB lift, because you will get more travel. I would go with a coil lift, though.

Thank you for the welcome. I don't want to go up to 35s yet, think 33 is as large as I want to go until this becomes toy only.

In comparing the two what would be the difference for ride, is there a place you guys would suggest this be purchased, and what should type of labor do you think I am looking at for installation?

I too am trying to decide these same things and really am not sure if 35" tires are too large for a mostly daily driver (I have an '01 XJ that at this point is pretty much a beater vehicle). 33" Tires do look good, but then I look at 35" tires and don't want to buy 33s and two weeks later wish I went with 35s, I'm sure everyone here knows how that goes, I've done it before.

you can run 33s on a stock Rubicon with no rubbing but I would lift it 2" to give you more clearance and a better look. I would get a shock and coil lift over a BB you get what you pay for.
