Default Stupid question about regearing

Ok so here is goes, lets say I have a stock 2008 4 door and I want to lift it and put 35's on it. I know I should regear, my question is are the gears just the ring and pinion set and do you have to regear the front diff as well as the back or can you get away with only the back( my guess is no)

If you have over 15000 miles on your rig i would order the full packages from Dave at Northridge and replace the bearings as well as regear. They come in a rebuild kit. Your also correct about doing both at the same time unless you want to pull your front driveshaft and ride around like that for a while. If you don't it'll screw up your transfer case.
Also assuming you have an X or non-rubi model, don't forget that you will need a new carrier up front for 3.73 ratios and up as your carrier won't work. The rear will however.

Thumbs up

Parts, plan on $500-$600.
Labor, varies by location.
Full install, parts and labor, anywhere from $650 - $2500.

6spd and 35's, 4.56 / 4.88 / 5.13
Auto and 35's, 4.88 / 5.13 / 5.38

In the drivetrain sections of the faq's stickied to the top of this modified area, you will find some great rpm charts. Use actual measured tire height, not mfg's spec.

If you live in a hilly/mountainous area then get 5.38's if you have a front D44, if not then 5.13's

If you live elsewhere then you'll be fine with 5.13's.
