Stripping instead of blasting rims for....
I just talked with a local guy who does powder coating. He told me that he perfers to remove the factory gloss powder coat on the aluminum rims with a stripper instead of sandblasting them. I want to get mine powder coated but want to be sure he knows what he's doing. Anyone heard of this?

ya u can do either i have a feeling if he was to blast yours he could damage the rim and it also depends on the kind of abressive he uses could decide stripping vs blasting

The aluminum alloy used in wheels is not very hard as you tell if you've experienced any rock rash, so the shop probably wants to avoid the liability.
$40-50/wheel seems to be going rate for powdercoating. The difference is that some shops will unmount the tires for that price, while others will/can not.
