Default Strange noise after aftermarket bumper install

I just installed the Bestop High Rock rear bumper w/out tire carrier. Install went fine but now everytime I hit the slightest bump I get a thud and slight rattle. Everything is tight and I don't see anything touching. Anyone with this bumper have similar issue.

Oh man, been there. Happened when I installed my LoD way back. Things were good for a few days, then the thud and rattle. I chased it for months. Removed and reinstalled everything twice. Literally tore the whole Jeep apart and took everything out, including the jack.

I never did find the noise. That was probably what pushed me over the edge into doing my build. Once I cut most of the back half of my Jeep off and added about 15 lbs of weld, noise is gone Different carrier as well.

It does sound a bit like it is your carrier not adjusted properly. The thud sounds like it is loose at the closure and then the rattle from the tire after that.

The body moves separately from the frame as it is not rigidly mounted for obvious reasons. Look along the bottom lip/edge of the tailgate/body for possible scuff marks indicating contact.

I'll grab a pic in a bit. Now that you mention it there is no gap between the bumper and body. The bumper is slid almost under it. The mounting instructions have the 2 bolts tightened down (where the stock hitch bolts went) then install the 4 bolts on the sides.

This is my PSC rear bumper. I have no clunking. I have approximately 9/16" clearance horizontally and 13/16" vertically if that helps.

Pretty sure that's your problem. As you can see from my pics I can fit my fingers between the tub and the bumper. In your pics it doesn't look like you can do that. It looks like it may be hitting your flares as well. Or at least the picture angle makes it appear that way. It's hard to tell from the pics but you may be able to add a 1" body lift to gain enough clearance if you don't mind the extra height. Otherwise, you may have to figure out how to drop the bumper down .75" and possibly out some. Because the bumper is so tight I can't see whether it needs to come out as well to prevent horizontal contact with the lip underneath the tub.

Did you check along the bottom to see if the paint is scuffed?

Edit: This is what I'm talking about...

I'm pulling it out and going to add some washers to the 2 interior bolts. The sides are slotted so I have wiggle room there

When I installed my bumper I was getting the same rattle/bump sound. Drove me crazy for a few days. Everything was tight! Like was stated above the body moves independently and each bump would create the rattle. After close inspection I was able to find a spot the size of Lincoln's head on the penny where the bumper had contacted the body and rubbed off some paint. Shimmed the bumper and noise has been gone now for months. So happy it was an easy fix

I would also call the noise an odd sound. Not a rattle. Not something loose. Like a thudding bumping sound. It was a different sound for sure. Haha

Sounds like a plan. I would shim until at least .5" out, maybe more if you have room. You second picture makes it look like it needs to go down also. How close is the flare to the bumper?
