Stock bumper shackle mounts
Fellow JK enthusiasts,
I have done some extensive searching through the threads to see if anyone has done a write up on putting shackle mounts onto their stock OEM JK bumper. I thought maybe there is a d ring shackle mount that has the same dill hole pattern as the tow hooks and the bumper could be modified to make that set up work. Anyone know of this type of modification or a write up on it? If so what shackle mounts were used and how was it installed?
I know some will say just get rid of the stock bumper but I like it and plan to keep it for now with a winch and maybe some shackle mounts.
Thanks for any help on this.

Here is what's behind the plastic cover.
Those things sticking out are called crush cans. They would have to be cut off.
Once the crush cans are removed, almost any brand of aftermarket D-Ring mounts will bolt up to the factory holes left by removing the tow hooks.
The problem is, there's no way that I know of to reuse the plastic bumper cover.

The crush cans are part of the collision management system (or something like that) meaning, they crush and absorb some of the force in an accident.
Cutting them off is up to you, but very few aftermarket bumpers use them.
I don't think you can get the D-ring mounts to work with the plastic factory bumper after you cut off the crush cans and put the mounts on where the tow hooks are. there just is too much space and plastic in the way.
I did find some pics of a guy that did it with some custom shackle mounts.
I just don't like how weak they look.
Compared to an actual load rated shackle mount.

Those extended mounts are interesting. I think with a light load that was straight on they would probably be OK. You wouldn't want to side load them from what I can tell.
