Default Steering Stablilizer

I was toldthat I should upgrade my Steering Stabilizer and I have some questions. I got some Mickey Thomsons 33s that really find the ruts on the road. And someone suggested a new Stabilizer that would work better than OE. Is the Sway Bar the same thing? And whats a good company to buy from? Thanks in advance.

Following the ruts on the road is a very mild form of Bump Steer which is caused by the coupling of steering and suspension; then the suspension compresses ever so slightly due to small ruts in the road, the steering also responds.

A steering stabilizer may help reduce some of this effect by damping the lateral oscillations of the tires, but it may not eliminate the problem completely. Part of the issue comes from the tread pattern of the tires. On some the tread just happens to perfectly match the ruts and grooves on the road and you get the annoying low amplitude oscillations. I had the same problem with MTZs on a TJ on some roads with grooves.

I would go with an OME or one of the new Bilstein SS. Contact Dave at Northridge4x4.

BTW, the sway bar has nothing to do with the SS. Its function is to reduce body roll (sway) when you turn.

Thanks, I was told to get rid of the OE stabilizer and get a better one. Think I'll do that.

After looking at the OEM one and laughing hysterically at it, I'm replacing it. It looks like a screen door shock.

I recently swapped out mine, Prior to that when I hit a minor pot hole or train tracks I would get a shaking thinking it was death wobble......A new stabilizer cleared it all up and handles alot smoother. Its a must.

I have the Rancho dual steering stabilizer and I love it. When I hit pot holes or bumps, there is no excessive jostling or play. The steering is tight and responsive.
