Default Steel wheels and no center caps

Question for those of you with steel wheels and no center caps:

Have you noticed a gap between the wheel and your hubs in the center? I have a slight gap on my series 97s, which would in effect put all the pressure on the lugs.

Anyone else notice this? Any ideas on what to do about it? I asked a tech at my dealer, and he said he's seen people put a type of shim in there.
