Sounds like the starter because of that click.

There are several threads on this. I had this issue with my 08. After reading several threads I ran a 4 gauge ground wire from the battery to the alternator mounting bolt. This solution world for me as I haven't had this issue happen since. Hopefully this helps you out.

Check the grounds and connections. Also, have the battery load tested.

Put your trans in neutral then try to start and if it does then its the gear selector sensor inside the trans and your warranty will cover it

Try this if you have an automatic. It worked for me.

Just had this frustrating issue too. Turned out to be the starter. Carmax implied that there may have been a recall on this click, start issue but I dunno. Either way, it's fixed for now and so far no more starting probs!!

If its not the starter then it could be the grounding of the battery. I had the same thing happen to me.

To test, pull another vehicle in front of you and hook a jump cable up from your negative battery terminal to their negative battery terminal. If your jeep starts up this way with the cable connected, you know its due to the battery not being grounded. I would try this first since its easy to test before doing anything else.

Also have read about the neutral thing mentioned above...

The connection you describe makes no sense.

Dammit, I spoke to soon. After a replaced starter, 2 days ago, it happened again. Click, no start 3 times before it finally turned over. Carmax is sending to the dealer. Feeling bummed!:-(
