Default Spray Undercoating 2015 JKU

Hey all,

As winter approaches here in the Northeast, I am looking to get my undercarriage treated for already formed rust and protected from further rusting.

I was originally planning on going to a local shop (RMS Offroad - Long Island) to get NHOU (New Hampshire Oil Undercoating) applied. I don't really have the means to do it myself so I don't mind paying for someone to do it, also the shop will re-spray every year for a discounted price.

I want to know what you all feel about NHOU or oil undercoating's in general. I feel like this is the best option for me given that I already have some rust formed underneath. I understand that I may need to remove some rust prior to getting it sprayed but I was hoping the shop will do that if possible.

I'm not interested in rubberized coatings as they just trap existing moisture. So please let me know the pros and cons of oil undercoating and if you recommend it.

Thanks in advance
Eric

I highly recommend it, had to scrap my 99 TJ because of frame rot.

I'm in Ontario Canada, I get my 2014 jk done once a year with Krown Rustproofing (a fluid film tyoe oil), Make sure you ask them to spray the inside of the frame (through the various holes) as well. The only downside is it will drip oil for about a week after having it done.

That is the one thing I’m worried about. I don’t know how annoying it will be to deal with the oily residue after the fact. Besides just routine maintenance under the vehicle, does road debris stick to it all? I drive on the beach and worry about sand just sticking to everything

It is definitely dirty to work on, haven't noticed dirt sticking to it though. Better my hands get dirty wrenching it then it rusting out.

I’m also in Ontario Canada and also recommend Krown. And yup it drips relentlessly for a week or two but it also seeps into a lot of nooks and crannies. I take the Jeep’s through mud and water and don’t have a problem with stuff sticking to it once things settle down after a couple of weeks. Dust is attracted to it but nothing that concerns me.

One interesting side effect was my rear drivers side power window had stopped working prior to getting sprayed, it now works fine.
