Default Spare tire carrier wisdom needed

Just sold my factory spare so I will be putting 305/70-16 wheel/tire on for a spare.
Will it fit?
Is it too heavy?
Suggestions?

2012 jk btw.

I don't see why not, I have a 33/12.50/15 on my spare tire carrier now. No problems. The size you mention was the size tires I had when I bought my JK. my 33 is a lot heavier then the 305 was. My 305's were MT Baja Claw and my 33 is a Super Swamper TSL bias.

I have a 305/65-17 (33x12.50-17). I just installed the longer Daystar tailgate bumpstops and my spare feels a lot more solid now.

What they said. It will be good, but go ahead and order some bumpstop extenders/ daystar bumpstops.

Keep an eye out for the new Teraflex spare tire carrier. There is a thread on here about it in the modified section. It's pretty trick, holds up to a 37" and no need to replace the bumper. Should be out around April
