Right now a former owner of this forum is writhing in pain at the recommendation to get a Teraflex tire carrier. The dude in question hates them.

You can also probably get away with just running a spacer on the stock carrier, but if you do, make sure you get some extended isolators (I think Daystar) runs them.

I have the Teraflex hinge, tire carrier, and accessory/hi-lift carrier and love it, but it is expensive.

I bit the bullet and put on the AEV carrier that mounts to the frame. It opens with the door. I really didn't want to put that kind of weight on the sheet metal tub either.

Another vote for OR-Fab's Swing Away Tire Carrier, it's solid, good looking, extremely versatile, and cheaper than Tera Flex. Send me a PM if you have any questions!

Genright aluminum tire carrier ... Light, looks great and after all the problems with the Teraflex welds breaking even tho they fixed the problem so it's said I wouldn't trust it with my light 37" MTR .... Every other week someone's trying to sell theirs so if you wait you can probably save a few bucks ..... and probably ok with a 35" tire..... But my vote still goes to Genright.

My bad. I thought you were saying that using the Tera flex hinged carrier would result in tailgate sagging. The reason I bought the hinged carrier and tire mount is so my gate wouldn't sag and break.

FYI I still run a Gen 1 version that is unbraced or modified with a beadlocked 37" MTR with zero issues for over 2 years. So the current beefied up version doesn't have any issues what so ever with welds breaking.

I have been running the Hanson Tire Carrier for over 4 years, wheel several times a year and no drop in tailgate.
The Hanson mounts to the hinge and then to the original mounting points of the OEM - I like the fact that it's attached to the gate, so no need to have a pin and double swing.
