Spare on tailgate - lets settle this once and for all

no problems Mickey MTZ 315/34.6" (aka 35") tires
1. What parts/products they used to make room for the bigger tires and accomodate a 3rd brake light,
> None
2. How long they ran with this setup (time or miles)
> 3 weeks 2000 miles
3. What kind of abuse has it been getting over this time (highway, off-road)
> rolled the jeep, been off road 4 separate occasions
4. Any side effects to date? Deformation of tailgate, bends, dents, etc.
> none

35x12.5 mounted on 15x8 mojave teflon with 3.75 backspacing.
1. What parts/products they used to make room for the bigger tires and accomodate a 3rd brake light,
None, the backspacing of the rim helped.
2. How long they ran with this setup (time or miles)
Actually only about a month
3. What kind of abuse has it been getting over this time (highway, off-road)
Done some moderate offroading, and it is my Daily driver.
4. Any side effects to date? Deformation of tailgate, bends, dents, etc.
None.....

Thanks all. To summarize so far it sounds like 35s may fit with no modifications depending on the wheel backspacing and width and tire width. If anything a spacer is sufficient to move tire out to clear bumper, but brake light always clears. Some have experienced some body side effects issues. May be a good temporary solution.
No information yet on 37s on stock tire carrier with any brackets, but people have a bad feeling about it. One person has 37s on the Bestop tire carrier for a short period of time and is happy with it. No bad reports of 37s on the Bestop carrier.

only a few hundred but goog so far
I had a rough country and took it off. it looked bad way too far out from the tailgate. 3rd light is visible with a 35/12.5 and it looks nice. I will get a bumper tire carrier, but i dont think its an urgent matter. Im not sure how uch heavier the larger tire is. If i keep it on for a while i plan on spacing out the "bumpstops" between the tailgate and tire, the aftermarket wheel has the rubber farther away from the gate by a couple of inches. In my situation the spacer put the tailgate in a far worse shape because the farther out from the tailgate with no support from the tailgate via bumpstop(not sure of the proper term) the more leverage pulling down. Just my thoughts, I think this is probably a case by case situation.. Thanks

I just had my 33" tire mounted to the stock set up and waffled my tailgate (that's red neck for F**Ked up ) wheeling a little hard...I took a steep incline a lil too fast and hit the spare on the ground right before the hill

But that has nothing to do with mounting a non-stock tire on the stock tailgate right? I mean, even if you have your stock 32" on there, and you wheel it into the ground, chances are there will be damage.
