I've been looking at the Ace also and I've heard the same concerns you have - that the bar can be slick when wet. I've also read of two ways to remedy this. Either use some spray-on bedliner like the dupli-color to provide grip or get some 'grip tape' from a skateboard shop.

My Rugged Ridge steps have served well protecting the body of my previous 08 JKU and now are on my new 11. There were a bit bent from wheeling but still have life in em.

Man I think you sold me on the ACE sliders. They are right at my price range. I was looking at the Smittybilt SRC. The ACE are cheaper and with a little gip tape or bed liner would work great to double as a side step.

A set of Sahara take offs are a pretty good deal. You can pick them up for around $100, and they are pretty dang sturdy. Saves you a $100 for a set of lights or Hi-Lift.

Skateboard grip tape is awesome... don't know how it would hold up over time though.

You can pick up the stock steps cheap on craigslist and on here! Be very careful off roading with these. They do not double as rails. I have seen these things bend up and dent the Jeep. But for steps they work!
