Oh fudge!!! I was falling in love with the Ace and then did more reading that for little little kids it's hard for them to use as a step. I picture a wet tennis shoe a slip and a fall and perhaps an injury. Besides this is a Xmas gift and the budget is literally $200 :(
Good luck with your decision.

My Rugged Ridge steps have served well protecting the body of my previous 08 JKU and now are on my new 11. There were a bit bent from wheeling but still have life in em.

Man I think you sold me on the ACE sliders. They are right at my price range. I was looking at the Smittybilt SRC. The ACE are cheaper and with a little gip tape or bed liner would work great to double as a side step.

A set of Sahara take offs are a pretty good deal. You can pick them up for around $100, and they are pretty dang sturdy. Saves you a $100 for a set of lights or Hi-Lift.

You can pick up the stock steps cheap on craigslist and on here! Be very careful off roading with these. They do not double as rails. I have seen these things bend up and dent the Jeep. But for steps they work!
