Question SOLID DIFF and rust questions.

OK. So i bought some SOLID diff covers for my Rubi's Dana 44's. I installed them myself and a few days later found leaking fluid under my vehicle but i am not mechanically inclined enough to pinpoint. So i took Rubi into the dealer to have my Hitch installed and had them look at it. They said that i am leaking diff fluid because the Solid diff covers fill hole is higher than the OEM's. That creates more pressure and the extra fluid is discharged via the breather tubes. It makes sense i guess because that is where i though it was leaking in the first place. So why are there Solid Docs stating this? And should i follow dealers reccomendation and drain fluid to the level of the stock cover. Or just let it Blow out and self level?

Also the service manger started showing me all of my "bumps and bruses" under Rubi;s belly. He would say you f@ucked up here, and here, and here. And you can see it rusting because of them bruises. So my other question is is there anything to put on these rust spots? Or do i, so to speak, let them ride and call Rubi a "real" jeep.

Any advice is appreciated.... Even yours WayofLife!

rustolium "hammered finish" in black. stops rust, hard as a rock, and has a texture to hide gouges.

tell him to go get fucked...

your going to have them spots if you wheel your jeep over rocks. If he doesnt like it tell him to go work for the caddy dealership
as far as the Diff goes. I'm surprised it blows out the breather, as along as its stock height for fluid level your good to go... so lower it if need be

No expert here so take it for what it is worth. I thought one of the advantages of the higher fill hole is you could get more fluid in there. My guess would be to just let it level itself out if it's not making too much of a mess. I don't think it can hurt anything.

The reason for the higher fill hole is so that when you tilt the diff ( rotate your pinion) up to get better driveline angle after a lift you can stilll get the required amount of diff fluid in. If the Angle is still stock put the requires amount in which will be lower than the fill plug

Exactly! You only need to be putting in as much gear oil as is required which should be about 2 quarts (2.25L/4.75 Pints as stated in the FSM) . The SOLID covers are designed with a higher fill hole so that you can still add the required amount of gear oil even after your axle has been tilited up when setting your pinion angle.

As far as rust goes from all your new rash spots go, I just do what others have already stated - rattle can them with some semi-gloss black of your choice
