Why? It converts to the safari top, (at least that's what I call it) when you zip out all the windows, adjust leave it on..my personal favorite...

I used to do that with my TJ but just recently tried with the JK (leaving the back corners in place) but the top lost its integrity. Oh but you know what, I had it folded back targa like at the time. It was the removal of the side rear windows that caused it to go slack. The rear window was already rolled up. From that point, I just dropped the top all the way back. I'd guess Safari style would have worked. I did always wrap a bungee or velcro strap around the strips that attach to the back corners to keep them from catching air.

When I did it with the TJ the top took a beating, I would also use a bungie cord to hold the back down. But with the JK, it doesn't seem to be as much an issue. It seem to hold well at speeds above 50mph, for extended periods. But I don't run the targa section open, I usually keep it closed.

Even during the summer, I usually take the doors off, but leave the "safari" top on, (bald) and I hate having a sunburn on my ears...

The JK has additional supports in the rear wings that anchor to rear of the tub, it's a white strip, I assume a light thin metal, or plastic strip. It seems to holdits shape. But. Also have a bungie cord and 2 two inch straps ready for additional support if needed.

There's a guy on here who chopped the rear portion off his soft top, and had sewn the ends, I must admit it looked great. And Franky asked why would you want to do that.. Well heres why I think it's a great idea.

1- I HATE cloudy soft top windows :-(
2- I love the sunriders ability to fold half way
3- anyones whose tried to put a bestop bikini top on door surrounds knows its not an easy task.

So my answer to why anyone would want to mod it, is so its a much better "user friendly" bikini top.

Now back to the topic... Soft top mods... Has anyone bedlined, vinyl wrapped, spraypainted, or canvas upholstered the soft top windows? I hate cloudy windows and I'm not ready to buy new ones

I don't run rear windows. Would be nice if I could ditch the door surrounds and still secure my soft top.

I did this because I cant stand the parachute look when I took the windows out and left the top up. I use 1" straps and hook to the back support bar. Then I took out the rear hard top mount and attached the other end there. Folded the two back pieces up and around the roll bar and secured with a rubber strap. This works great.

Cool, so you basically made it into a bikini top
