They suck as soon as they freeze. Turn in to hockey pucks. I travel through North Dakota frequently. Sipping may help but don't expect them to be much better. I'm assuming you work in the oil patch if your coming from California, might be worth swapping a set of Duratracs on for winter months...

A local JK owner on 35" KM2s , initially traveling about 10 mph, slid uncontrollably down an icy hill for about 1/8 of a mile, hit two parked vehicles before coming to a stop. No amount of braking, traction control aids, abs, etc could stop that Jeep. Caused about $10k total damage. I wouldn't put those things on again on a bet.

It's a Rubicon, not a snowmobile....
They work OK in deeper snow, but terrible on packed snow and ice, like a plowed road. I'm not even sure siping will help, but at $20/tire, it's cheaper than buying a new set.

Thanks for all the info. I don't have the resources to have winter and summer tires. As much as I would like to this thug doesn't do much off road. Just a few minor trails here and there and driving the county roads and lease roads. I think I'll see if I can survive the winter and get through summer and invest in some new shoes. I hear duratracs are great in the snow but how are they on the highway. Time to start doing my homework.
