I'm really glad that Rugged Ridge has come out with that snorkel. I think it looks great and is going on my Jeep after I swap out my bumpers. It rains here at least once a day six months out of the year and I am not going to take the chance.

I have made this same pass over a dozen times with the stock filter box and pressure wash my engine bay fairly often. Never hydrolocked or have had any electrical issues. I've seen stock JK's go thru alot worse than this. A snorkel is for DEEP water crossings. If you dont plan on seeing alot of water, spend the $$ elsewhere. JMHO.

On a stormy night, there was a long puddle on a road, some 5" deep, which I couldn't see in advance.
The splash washed the windscreen and the top. It didn't hydrolock, but it could.
That was on a road. When wheeling, there's more of the unexpected.

A snorkel --

...Gets cooler air to the engine, especially when outside temp' is high
...and when crawling off road or in traffic jams.

...Filters sand dust. In a dry desert, a snorkel is an advantage.

...Keeps the air filter cleaner.

I tend to avoid deep water or mud, but am waiting for the Rugged Ridge modular snorkel for the '12.
The low intake will do the job, and will add a serious but understated look which I like.

EXTEND BREATHERS LINK->https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-w...al-2dr-246787/
If you haven't extended your breathers, I would do that even if you think snorkels are wack. It only cost about $15. The axles breathers are basically in the wheel wells. The openings on jiggle cap is about like a coffee straw. Not real big, but they are going to tend to suck in air (water) when a hot axle hits cold water.

I have seen a ton of videos were people get really lucky and do crazy water crossings. It seems to me like a better off safe than sorry situation for having the snorkel. More for splashes then just being super deep. Personally I think they look cool too.

Sometimes there is situations like this where it is hard to tell what the water dept is . This guy didn't hydrolock.
