Other than the LOOKS how many of you have needed a Snorkel I for one dont ever plan on going that deep, only have even "Needed" one when I took an H1 up to the windshield...just a question post pics if you have "Used" it.

Just the notch in the hood. Go to Quadratec's website. You can look at Rugged Ridge's and AEV's. Scroll down on each and the install instruction can be opened.

It's as much a precaution as anything. None of us intend on going that deep but it only takes once to drop the front end into a beaver trough deep enough for water over the hood and you are hydro locked.
I seldom go in water that is deeper then the bottom of the doors but there is always that one trail that has surprises.

I personally don't like the looks. I'm getting one cause I think I need it functionally. Lots of streams and creeks in my area all flowing into the Susquehanna river. So..lots of small stream & creek flooding with heavy rain frequently. And..sort of like an insurance policy you don't need it till you need it. Here's a pic of an outing with my 4x4 club of a jeep in front of me. This was in the mountains. Never expected the hole to be this deep. I'm getting it for "what if". Not for looks.

Heard of one person recently who had another brand and never checked the connections after install. Was at Rausch Creek here in PA and hydrolocked his jk fording a stream due to a connection coming apart. Hearing that made my decision.
Biggest reason I went AEV. Others have too many connections that are basically impossible to check. Some even go down out the airbox which means it will be under water when the AEV has not even got a splash.

Living in the Midwest all you have to do is look under my hood to see how much water gets thrown under the hood from the tire. Have heard people hydro locking their motor from being stuck and the tire throwing water into the airbox. I have also seen a video where a JK went splashing through a shallow stream but the water thrown had enough force to push the hood up and spit out water. Video was to show how he hydro locked in shallow water. It was no deeper than a normal flooded street.

I like the look of the Rugged Ridge. Works very well at Rausch with the high mount and I like that you can put the less noticeable low mount when running around town.

Again, I think they look awesome. How much of a pain was it to install? How often do you recheck the connections? Have you ever found any that needed retightening? How easy after the install is it to get to the connections to check them? How bad of a blind spot does the high mount create? Even the low mount for that matter. You can probably hide a tractor trailer behind your "A" pillar pulling out from an intersection with the high mount on. That fact or possibility worries me when my 17 y/o daughter takes my jeep for an errand.

Like just about anything Jeep, it was an all day install. Would have been a lot easier with 2 people, but...

When I take my Jeep in to have the oil, filter, lube, tire rotation, and safety check, they look at the install and joints to see if anything came loose.

That doesn't mean it is perfect, but it passes the restricted air test so...

The high mount is a pain and I don't like the way it mounts as well. I don't run it at all. What to buy one?

The low mount sticks up about 2-3 inches and from my seat it can be seen but you have to look. Doesn't block much at all.

I am happy with my decision so far after 3 years.

I have needed it in a couple of those awe crap moments when the bottom falls out from under you and the Jeep.

Make sure you paint that little strip where you take off the fender joint like it says in the manual. I didn't....mistake.

Have 3 friends that have the RUgged Ridge units. 2 have had water issues. All 3 leak air at the fender top connection. The bolts that hold the stack down. All 3 continue to fail the engine smother test.

Still the best looking snorkel out there but I would not trust it. But that's me.
