Snorkel kits
Which has the advantage in quality of material, function and price, the aluminum River Raider snorkel system or the plastic ARB snorkel?
I know that ARB hasn't produced a JK snorkel yet, but I wouldn't imagine it being too much more expensive than the systems produced for older Wranglers...
I wonder if the River Raider will dent easily or scratch the hell out of the paint on the jeep...
also, with a snorkel system, can you freely take the doors off?

I havent really looked at any ARB snorkels before, but I got to see the river raider in person and it is a very nice setup. It looked really solid. It was pretty heavy gauge aluminum. Kenny from River Raider said they designed an aluminum one because they were sick of catching plastic on trees and breaking them. It flows pretty nice with the body lines too, the pictures really dont do it justice. I doubt if it would scratch the jeep. It has good spacing and seens fairly solid, it uses factory bolts to attach, so you dont have to drill anymore holes on the a pillar. It looked like you could take the doors off too, but I couldnt say for sure. Slickwill has one, and I think I saw some pics of his jeep doorless

I have the River Raider and love it! I put my JK though hell and back and the system works great! Not a dent or scratch on it very heavy duty! I have been in water over my hood, Deep mud, And sand and not one problem!

DOORS COME RIGHT OFF NO PROBLEMS....
the snorkel is extreamly light and really strong... i do a lot of tight trails and have yet to scratch. or for that fact even really harm it in anyway.
i will be extending my breathers as soon as time will allow (just bought a new bike so i wont be wheelin for a while)
overall i am really happy with my snorkel..

I read that the snorkel you have just hooks up to the stock air box correct? if it does not replace the stock air box, you can still get water in the bottom of the air box b/c it has holes in it. Is this the case? or does it have a whole new air box?
and for those that are wondering, I've gone through mud and water as deep as the ones in that video with my stock air box and it never let any mud or water through the filter, had a bunch of mud in the bottom of the air box and all inside the intake part, but none got on the filter.
doesn't matter if you have a snorkel or not if you get the alternator wet, your done. But snorkels look so cool tho, I still want to get one

They give you plates and screws to seal up the box plus a battery relocater plate and more..
Yes my doors come off the same way it dose not interfere with them!
All of my breather are relocated high under my hood.
I put this thought it all and not a dent or nick on it!
We have a bunch of guys in my club that have snorkels and River Raider is by far the best Snorkel system out their!
