Valid thread jack, and honestly its scary. I'm glad I wasn't wheeling alone! I always learn the important things on this thread *after I break something. In hindsight I should have sleeved it, its inexpensive and would probably have saved me this whole headache.

Take anything Eddie says with a grain of salt. He only changed his tune because evo started selling sleeves. That said I have sleeves, but Eddie is still an idiot

This is old info,

I wouldn't bother sleeving a 30 or 44 because the tubes can still bend at the differential. I had sleeves installed in my factory 44 and the tubes still bent. Best advice is to play with what you got and save up for a better housing. I now currently run a ProRock 44.

But wouldn't sleeving most likely have prevented a catastrophic break like this? I could limp down on a bent housing theoretically?

Best way to prevent this from happening, and even this isn't 100% certain, is to change to the 225/75R-16 street tires that front axle was designed to handle. Jeep under engineered the front axle on these JKs even for stock use. Add larger tires, and its just a matter of time before the front axle fails.

That really is a shame, ok. Well I guess I can just hope to get as much out of it as possible and start saving for the upgrade haha. Thank you!

Where can you find just the housing? I can only find the full J8 assemblies for ~$5000

There is a guy in Cincinatti that sells complete Mopar D44 axles (minus calipers, I believe) for $1800.

My intention is to replace my front with this after it is gusseted and trussed (and maybe sleeved for good measure).

I'm sure you could find a D30 housing for <$500
