I get that the finish is textured, but is it pretty durable? Has anybody whacked it on something? If yes, does bare metal show under neath?

Also, how rough is the texture? I'd love to see an up close shot of this (like very close).

I ask about the finish because i have a rugged ridge xhd front bumper which is powdercoat finish but im really looking at this smittybuilt for the rear with tire carrier... Im curious how the finish will compare to my front bumper...

That stock hitch is very solid and easily removable. The XRC hitch hangs down quite a bit and I can foresee dragging it through dirt and over rocks in the future. If I had the stock hitch I could just take it off when I need that extra exit angle.
This isn't as big as a concernas I thought it'd be, it very rarely gets hit actually and if it were to get smashed up enough you could always just cut it right off or trim it the same angle as the rest of the bumper.

how heavy is the bumper tire carrier combo? would a spacer be needed to keep the height of the lift? it looks solid but also pretty freaking heavy
