Smittybilt Oversized Tire Carrier 07-13 Wrangler Unlimited JK
Anyone body using this Smittybilt Oversized Tire Carrier for a 07-13 Wrangler?
What size tire are you carrying? How long have you been using it? Has it caused any sagging on the tail gate or pulled through the mount hole from excessive bounce?

I have been using this carrier for about a year or so. I does its job but it does bounce around with a small amount of noise. Mine is carrying a 35" Mud Grappler.

I HAD it on my Sahara before I rolled her..... I had a 37X12.50R18 BFG Mud Terrain KM2 Tire on it
If u look here at her in the junk yard u can see the spare still there after rolling numerous times.... And the tailgate was actually just fine after the accident.... I think it was the only part NOT damaged! Lol

I ran one for about a year with a 35x12.5 GY MTR with no issues. It held the tire tight. I did hear some creaking from the tailgate area but there is no evidence of popped rivets or sagging. I was always afraid that I would drop off a ledge offroading and leave my tire and gate behind though....

Ouch! Sorry for you loss. Did everyone make it out of the wreck ok?
If you do mind me asking, what caused the roll?
I probably can figure a way to modify the tubes with foam to minimize the rattle.
I'll wait a few more days...lets see what others say after the holiday winds down.

I've been using it for about 7 months so far and have had no issues with anything. I just keep checking to make sure the tire is nice and tight so there isn't much bouncing. Other than that it has been great.

The tire carrier was great though... No problems with a 37 hanging on it!

I ran that for about one year with a 37" spare. It will start rattling. If you think about it how much different is it compared to the stock set up as far as getting the wt off of the tail gate itself. I upgraded to a Terraflex which takes the wt off of the tailgate and distributes most of it to the hinge instead. Note I modded the Smittybilt to fit.
