If water has reached the height of this, I'm in a lot more trouble than just water in the intake with all the electronics in the vehicle, but I guess facing backward would be safest because of entry angle into a creek.
This is true if you are crawling very slow but if you hit the water at speed (20 mph or so) it will splash up and into the scoop. during your next rain storm run through a good 6 inch (12-15 cm) puddle and watch the water splash up and right onto the section of hood where the scoop would be. The stock air intake is under the hood so since it is lower it does not get the full force of the water.

Would it be possible for someone here in the states to purchase it and mail it to you labeled as a gift? I am not sure if that would make a difference.

not my cup of tea...... but it may work for you. I'd be leary of it for the funnel issues some of the others have pointed out.
