Should I keep my D30?

I dunno
I'm the idiot who went from stock d30 and D44 to pr44 and pr60 in 5.13
I just did the math and I figured I'd pay a good % of what the pr44 was going to cost me to sleeve/gusset/new axles and regear the d30
But it's your Jeep and your budget, we can just give you different perspectives and outcomes...

can you make the d30 almost as strong as a 44? maybe. but it costs as much as a 44 and the 30 is still a weak point, especially for 37+ inch tires and offroading. theres a reason jeep went with d44 front and rear in the rubicons, its just a better setup to start with unless you plan on going super heavy into the d60+ range . I have seen alot of threads about this on the jeep forums, and they all aggree its cheaper to upgrade your stock 30 to a 44 now, then it is to mess around with the 30, end up breaking the ring and pinion or one of the other weak points in it, and then getting the 44 after.
if it was me, with what you plan for wheel size and taking it wheeling, I would absolutely take the stock 30 out, sell it for what you can to the guys running the 30 gear that do break it and need replacements, and pop on the 44

I'm with abendx on this...
Don't polish a turd if your going 37s and anything Steeper than 4:56 gears I'd go right to a d44... I see gears a lot and the difference between a d44 5:13 and a d30 5:13 ring and pinion is HUGE....
Yes I've destroyed gears , broke rear d44 axles destroyed front d44 axles and gears along with the front end of my jeep when a broken axle went catastrophic....so good advice is to upgrade of possible find a build d44 because that saves money usually.....over building one...
The housings are the same the center carrier section is where the difference is....
Either way have fun and jeep on.....
Being broke means you will be screwed should the d30 blow up after you put a bunch of money into it....just save a little find the new housing and then dump what you were gok g to put in the d30 into this money wise....

It's your money and I'm sure you've heard the saying about a fool and his money....
Learn from other's mistakes and gained wisdom, not from a fool whom is seeking the company of others.
