So you don't over compress your coil springs to the point that they are completely compressed. Also... if you are running longer shocks or even shock extensions you don't want your shocks to over compress either. The bump stops should be what ultimately limits your travel and not the springs or the shocks.
This is true.... but why not just get the kit that's complete to begin with? Besides... to do it right with washers you would need a lot of washers.
you could always use washers and longer bolts to move bump stops.
