Default Shock Boots

I notice that some shocks come with boots and some do not. If I buy a shock that does not have a boot, is there a reason to add one? Or to not add one? I was looking at the Rough Country 2.2 shocks to be specific.

trust me, you don't want them. whenever i get a set on my shocks, i cut them off. boots are nothing more than water, mud and muck collectors that will eventually cause your shock shafts to rust.

They trap mud and water. However, if you don't go through much of that then they do function to keep dust and debris out and could/might help.

There's a reason that motorcycle companies abandoned them when they started inverting forks after the 80's... Useless.

And they look ugly too. IMO
