Sanity check: Going for 4.88 & 33, some towing, 6sp, no 35's in future
'11 Rubi 4-door currently with 32's and 4.10, 6-speed.
I've scrutinized the tables, done tests, etc. Scheduling the install now, but owe it to do a sanity check with the group.
Mostly daily driver, want some mild wheeling, and sometimes tow a 3,300 lb trailer. Run 55 mph max with trailer, 65 mph max without.
I do NOT plan on going to 35's in the future. Maine won't allow it, in fact. Not a lot of 34 choices out there, I'm happy at 33 max (and don't want to go too aggressive as I tow a trailer).
Goals are to solve "factory" borderline sluggishness (4.10 & 32) and to help with towing. I figure 1 step up helps with the sluggishness, and a second step up helps with the towing, putting me at 4.88 with 32's, and that might be a tad high RPMs. Upping tires makes me happy and also brings the RPMs back down a tad.
Bottom line:
My gut feeling, which seems to be backed up by the tables, is that 4.88 would be a sweet spot for the 6-speed Rubi Unlimited with 33's even while towing, especially given that I don't drive fast (towing or not).
Please confirm my suspicion that going to 5.13 will be slight overkill for these needs, and again given that I do NOT plan for 35's. I know it's a close call, and 5.13's would help with towing, but when NOT towing, the 5.13 would put me at 2,850 in 6th at 65, and at 2,630 in 6th at 60. Not sure I want to cruise pushing 2,900 at highway speed.
Or, tell me I'm worrying about small potatoes and 5.13's will be fine all around with 33's.
I wouldn't ask this FAQ if it weren't for the fact the decision is 50/50...

I ended up going with 4.88 and 33" and I love it. I have yet to hook up the trailer but that will change soon.
No regrets so far on 4.88 with 33" as a daily driver.
