How can you tell if your running lean. I don't want to wreck my engine. When I run 87 tune compared to 93 tune. The 93 tune is way louder and more of a popping sound when I let off the gas. When you run lean does that mean the octane isn't high enough?

Running lean means your fuel:air ratio is off with the fuel ratio being too high. That will cause the popping sound you are hearing. Have the person who tuned your jeep check it out and change the ratio. Switch to the lower octane tune to preserve engine longevity.

Only way to. Check if your running lean is to buy a wide band o2 sensor gauge
Or go find a dyno and do a couple of runs on it. They will tell u.
The jk's are tinned for mid grade. Running anything else can hurt or cause problems.

Running lean does mean that you don't have enough fuel. Your air ratio is too high. Higher octane fuel won't help enough. If you are truly running lean you need to get it fixed. Running lean makes cylinder temps rise and if they get hot enough you can melt pistons. Not that you will reach that kind of temps in a jeep.

Ok thanks. So if I run the superchips 93 tune on my jeep. Why do some people say I'm going to run lean. It has more power so isn't it spraying more fuel
