rugged ridge tire carrier help
got mine yesterday and tried to install it. only nothing wanted to line uo right. after about 6 hours messing with it i finally got it mounted but now the post that the carrier latches into when closed doesnt allow me to open the tail gate!! that and the carrier rubs and basically just sits on the bumper when opened and closing. is anyone else having these issues?? the bumper is great but the tire carrier apparently sucks!!! im honestly considering getting a refund if i cant get the thing worked out.

I got mine installed last week, took some tweaking and there is only about a hairs width between the jeeps door and the carrier bracket. As for it sitting on the bumper, it does come with different shims to adjust that, but i sort of figure the more it sits, the less its going to rattle, so it didnt bother me....
I did find I had to reposition the bumper to get enough clearance, and messed up a little powdercoat with a hammer for some final adjustments...

1. Loosen all bolts, even the ones on the side plate in the fender wells.
2. Make sure the bumper is seated down as far as possible and re tighten these side bolts, passenger and driver sides.
3. Make sure the latch on the drivers side is as far left as possible, hold it to the left as you tighten the top bolts.
4. Tighten the D-ring bolts on the driver side.
5. Tighten the top bolts on the passenger side.
6. Tighten the D-ring bolts on the passenger side.
Let me know if this works for you. There isn't much clearance between the latch and the tailgate, but it does not make contact now.

Had similar problems with mine. Here is what I did to correct it.

The extra weight the RR Rear bumper and Tire carrier add (about 175lbs.) really changed the way it rode, when you hit a bump and the back end comes down it slams real hard.
This bumper and carrier weighs way more than it needs to be.
Cosmetically it looks great, functionally it sucks shit.
Very bad engineering went into that product.
All that waiting for something very lame, real hard disappointment.

I have the same problem, call OMIX-ADA and talk to Pat Bennett. There is a problem with 40% of the brackets that mount on the drivers side behind the D-Ring. The post where the latch secures to is too far to the right.
OMIX is making new brackets and sending them out to customers that call. They are also advising to remove the one bolt closest to the tailgate because your tailgate will rub on it eventually. Pat informed that future brackets wont include this hole anymore.
Pat indicated they are working on a new bracket completely that will allow you to adjust the way the latch secures. For now they are just sending a bracket with the post installed in the correct position.
I had to grind the post down just to be able to open the tailgate.
To be honest... the front bumper is great.... the rear bumper and tires carrier is a POS.
