Rubicrawler ... anyone using one?
#24
I installed one last year when I was running 4.88s with 33s. Loved having the increased crawl ratio. Then I went to 38s and have switched to 5.38s as of last month. I have not wheeled with this current set up yet but have tested it out on some log piles I have in my yard which sit at 3.5 feet high. I can tell you in 4Lo, RubiCrawler engaged and lockers engaged it crawled up it like it wasn't even there. I didnt use any skinny pedal, 30lbs of air in the tires and swaybar connected. So 5.38s are not too steep IMHO.

Is there a good suggestion on where to purchase one for a good price? Does everything come in the kit to install or is there other things needed?
Since I will be having the front transfer case out is this a good time to do any other upgrades as well? Like front driveshaft or other things related to install

I'm contemplating a Rubicrawler as well! Couple questions:
1. With my eventual planned 5.13 gears, my crawl ratio would be approx 158.5:1, is this excessive for an auto? (I've had a manual rig with 117:1 crawl ratio and loved it but, no experience with an ultra low slush box) Do those of y'all that have a Rubicrawler find yourselves utilizing the full low range very often? Or the 2.72:1 low very often? (in lieu of stock 4:1)
2. How tough is the install? (I'd like to be able to put it in myself, if possible)
Thanks!

u can do it....
In my humble opinion you should try it. Directions are pretty good. Factory Service manual access helps. Follow the suggestions... I usually break something which extends my projects but amazingly I did not damage anything when attempting this. I included a transmission service and did it all without a lift.
Its very quiet, and super torque when u need it. Shifts just like stock t case into low. Keeps the stock look as well. All in all I love it.
