Rough Virbrations When Wheeling (Turning) and in 4hi
The JK is sitting at 4 inches of actual lift. It's a 2dr automatic. With 33 inch tires, the flex is insane. However, having some issues now.
1) I know my steering box is going. I can hear the gears acting up when even pulling out of a parking spot. When turning while 4-wheeling, you can hear and feel a strong vibration. Is this due to the steering box going? How much time do you think I have left until it goes? Any idea how much an OEM box is and cost of replacement?
2) I have rear upper adjustable control arms. I have 3.73 gearing. When on the highway, if I hit 75-80 mph, I begin to feel a slight vibration in the pedals. Anything 70 or less and no vibration. I am running OEM driveshafts both front and rear. Is perhaps my rear driveshaft hinting that it's about to go?
3) When in 4lo and in 4lo crawling speeds, there is no vibration. HOWEVER, when in 4hi picking up speeds of 20-30+mph on a dirt road or even asphalt, I can hear and feel a slight vibration when I press on the pedal. Is this perhaps a hint my front driveshaft is about to go? I cut a notch in my skid plate to accomodate the driveshaft droop angle with the high lift, but is perhaps the angle in general too much for the stock shaft?
4) I went up to Flagstaff yesterday and cruised on a forest service road. I hit a patch of ice and hit the brakes. Probably much harder than I should have. I've felt the ESP kick in when turning to sharp or fast while on the road, BUT on the ice it sounded like my brakes were violently being squeezed and a vibration resonated throughout the JK until I came to a stop and let off the brakes. I was in 4-wheel. Is this loud vibration just my ESP kicking into overdrive in order to accomodate stopping on ice? Or can this have anything to do with my driveshafts?
Thanks! Happy Holidays everyone

Just to get this straight and you probably know this already but....you're not using the 4wd system on dry pavement and trying to steer at the same time, is that correct? That would definitely cause some issues.

No. The 4hi was used on dirt roads with patches of ice on certain spots. Otherwise I was 2wd. Was in 4lo only during wheeling. I'm convinced it's about time my steering box gets replaced. So random for it to go

I think your best bet is to just take it into a dealer and have them look at it, but I would just tell them you want a quote on how much $$$ to fix before they go and start doing this and that and racking up your bill. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Your #4 question almost sounds like it's your ABS system kicking in or something.
