Default Rough country vs. Warn

I'm looking into buying a 12,000lb winch for my wrangler unlimited 4dr. I don't really know much about either of the brands so I was wondering if anyone had a preference on which winch to go with

Well there is quite a gap from a Warn to RC. The better of the two would be a Warn in my opinion but you'll pay for it. Check out the ENGO line, quality winch and the price is right.

X's 2 on Engo. I purchased as well. Have not used yet but have read very good reviews on them.

Jeep parts usually fall under the "Ya get what ya pay for" saying. I have a Warn and am VERY pleased with it.

Budget minded, look into smittybilt, engo, superwinch and even a few warn winches. Ive seen a few basic warns in the 600 range.

I agree with this. Warn is known as the superior brand in winches and years of use and reviews back that up. You will pay a premium for a Warn winch but when you need a winch is not the time to wonder if it's going to work or not. Here is the Warn Zeon 12,000 which is one Warn's newer winches. Very well made but a little pricey. If you're budget conscious the Engo 12,000 is a good choice. The brand hasn't been around as long as Warn but so far it has proven to be a good quality brand. You can read some winch comparison/torture tests to get a better idea of other brands that are good.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like a quote!

are you kidding?!

That's like Geo Metro vs. Ferrari.

I always feel bad for people with Rough Country stickers... like... they are just going to have to pay again to redo it right...

and yes, that's from experience.

There's 2 trains of thought on this. Buy inexpensive and replace when necessary, or spend extra now and maybe not have a problem in the future.

Personally I went inexpensive because it was something I could get sooner, rather than wait much longer for a higher quality winch like a warn. Someday I probably will replace my Smittybilt with Warn, but for now it suits me fine.

That being said, if money was not the primary concern with me I would have gone with a nicer winch to start off with.

I agree totally. There are members that have had their Warn poop out on them as well.
