To get the shifter off i had some trouble. I did my clutch previously and it came off real easy then, but was a pain this time. I used a puller hammer. Which is just a long metal pole with a slider on it. At the end i had a hook to put around the shifter pole and then slid the hammer a couple times and it popped right off.

BAAAM bringing it back from the dead. What exactly did you use in the end to take the shifter shaft out of the transmission's? I tried hammering, vise grips and a screwdriver as lever and nothing. Can I spray PB blaster on it to see if it "lubricates" and comes out? I don't want to hammer it full force as it could damage the transmission itself.

Undo the Allen screw... Then replace it but only give it a couple turns. Then I put the clamp on it. One part underneath the shifter lever and the other on the screw head. I actually took the flat swivel piece off my c-clamp so the ball would stay in the Allen head screw (or is it hex screw?) because its a pain in the ass because of the weird angle. Once I got it tight it only took about a half turn and it popped loose. Hope this helps ya!
