Not to be critical but why at 59k could a cat be a problem. I've driven multiple high milers - like into the hundreds of thousand miles. Even owned a small fleet at one time. I live in a high winter road salt area as well. Never ever had to change a cat and only rarely any other exhaust part. Any fuel or oil additives in this equation? Just wondering.

had the same smell in my wifes VW Beetle...ended up being the battery..it had gotten REALLY HOT and cracked and leaked fluid down the side...result of a bad cell and I assume the others were overcharging

I dropped it at the dealer today. We will see. I don't smell anything near the battery. I smell it clmkg out of the exhaust pipe

So of course when j bring it there it doesn't smell. Sat with the guy in the jeep still no smell. Said that battery was good. The cats and the O2 are a good. They have no idea what it could be. And to drive around and when smell it to bring it in
