I went with the congo cage. Holds up to 500lbs and cost was right. I too didn't have the money for Gobi and am not a fan of drilling into my Jeep. With the yakima attachments and bars total came in under 1000.

I have the JC Whitney GaragePro/ Ndure / body armor variant:
It works with both the soft top and hard top and doesn't need to be tipped or swung out of the way to work the soft top.
It's also around $500.
It is rated 350lbs, but have hung my 230 lb body on one side rail ( bent over the top rail reaching in to the Jeep interior and the thing doesn't even think twice about it.

Yes. All you do is unbolt the right and left front top side bolts and flip it back. Remove the top and bolt it back up.
