Default Roof rack, anyone bolt them directly to the hardtop?

I am thinking about bolting a thule rack directly to the hard top,
My concern is will it sustain the wind without cracking the top/ripping off?

I have this rack currently
http //www.prolineracks.com/thule-696-Xpedition-safari-roof-racks.html

Since the hard top doesnt have the rails toward the back i can not mount the feet and use the cross bars.

I was thinking of using some sort of spacer to lift it about an inch or two off the top, the bolt it directly down.

What do you guys think, will it hold up.

I saw on here there was a guy who bolted a hummer rack on to his hard top, any feed back would be appreciated.

Yakima makes some nice rack rails that you can mount direct on the hard top for the style you're talking about (w/cross bars)

Get the Thule. I got a Yakima just to learn that they had replaced the bolts and nuts by some expanding rivets. Several folks here in the forum strongly advised against using the rivets. The correct are nuts and bolts. Several folks here have the Thule and are very happy with it an that's the one I'm installing.

Here's how bad is their "customer service":
The manual said to call Yakima in case the car we wanted to install was not in the manual's list. So I called Yakima just to hear a moronic customer service tell me I had to take my Jeep to a Chrysler dealer for them to install it.

As I asked how come I had to have a Chrysler dealer to install a Yakima product the guy just answered very laconically that he did not know how to do it, but the dealer would.

After that I returned that crap to the store and will stay away of Yakima stuff in the future.

Have you looked at the Garvin Track Rack? The track attaches directly to the top of the hard top.

Are you trying to mount it on a 2 door or 4 door?

Couldn't be happier. Yakima system. CNC machined mounting 'pods' 400 degree rated gaskets and bolts. No vibration, no movement at all. Must remove for carwashes. Stands at 7 ft 6.

Also, skip the 'rails' just mount landing pads directly to the roof. I had an engineer work on this for over a week with Auto Cad. It's the best way to go, and looks better.

Up close shots. Keep in mind the parts that bolt directly onto the roof are custom.
